Salary £85000 – £95000

Within UK Research and Innovation, BBSRC is the UK’s largest public funder of research of the non-medical biosciences. It supports independent, high quality research in UK Universities and independent research institutes which pushes back the frontiers of bioscience knowledge and understanding and has an impact on society and the economy. BBSRC invests in training the next generation of bioscience researchers through fellowship and studentship programmes and supports key research infrastructures and national capabilities across the UK.

Following a recent review of its senior structure, BBSRC is excited to announce the development of two strategic roles. The Deputy Executive Chair and the Strategic Planning, Evidence and Engagement Director will play a key part in the further evolution of BBSRC and UKRI Directive, reflecting the ever-increasing importance of bioscience within the UK.

We are seeking individuals with a first-class track record of academic achievement in any branch of the biological sciences and proven strategic and analytical thinking to join as the Deputy Executive Chair for UKRI-BBSRC. In this role you will provide highly respected, academic leadership and insight across all our bioscience research and innovation interests.

This pivotal role will be developing UKRI-BBSRC’s overarching vision and long-term goals and brings intellectual leadership to the development and delivery of a coherent strategy for research and innovation.  Working collaboratively and collectively with the Executive Chair and Executive Directors in UKRI-BBSRC, you will advance bioscience research and innovation working across UKRI and connecting to the wider bioscience research and innovation community in universities, research institutes and UK Government.

This is an excellent opportunity to support the further development of key relationships and networks across research and innovation, both with BBSRC colleagues and winder organisations.

This is a part-time seconded position during which time you will be expected to remain research active.
